Facility Wish List

Here is what we think would make the best facility:

  • Covered overhang for drive ups

  • Intake area

  • Office

  • Cleaning Supply Room

  • Medical Treatment area - exam table(s), counter space/workbench for microscope(s), computer area

  • Medical supply closet

  • Hand washing area - at least 1 and would be a good idea to have an emergency eye-wash sink

  • Area for cages - usually better to have separate areas for raccoons vs squirrels/skunks/groundhogs

    • possibly separate air system for quarantine room, air filters, maybe UV sanitization lamps... rationale: there are frequently outbreaks of parvo at these facilities that can kill the entire facility)

  • Would love to have (and would be extremely helpful) to have a wash room for cages - where you can just wheel the table/cage in and powerwash/steam clean- *protecting our critters from spread of disease is super important. An illness like Parvo can take out an entire facility.

  • Kitchen/food prep area

    • space for an industrial dishwasher or 2!

    • large freezer or freezers

    • large fridge or 2

    • pantry area

    • dishes

    • food prep - think restaurant style food prep

    • large pantry - dry food items (formula, canned goods, bags and buckets of dog food and other)

  • Cleaning supplies closet - large enough to hold lots of paper towels, spray bottles, large tote bins of towels, blankets, wash cloths, beds, hammocks, smocks/personal protective gear (gloves, glasses, masks, gowns), gallons of: dish detergent, Clorox, Steramine, Rescue, and Dawn cleaners, hand sanitizers; brooms, vacuums, mops, newspaper bins (we use news paper to line crates/cages to protect little paws).

  • Laundry area (need x2 washers and dryers), folding table, storage for Clorox, Borax, Laundry detergent - and room for lots of laundry bins

  • Bathroom (1 or 2)

  • Staff Mudroom/break area - clean and dirty area for shoes, personal belongings (lockers or cubbies maybe?)

    • coffee bar/fridge -

    • stairs to staff quarters/bunk room upstairs

  • Bunk room 2nd floor 6-12 beds, bathrooms - we can rent to volunteers, students & researchers. Would be nice to have a kitchenette and lounge area, should have a separate air system from downstairs

  • Outside- more covered area, trails to both larger animal and transitional outdoor cages (where we move babies to before actual release) or other animals that cant/shouldn't be kept indoors (coyote, porcupine, adult skunks)

    • gardens to grow food for animals

    • another covered area would be fabulous - either for animal cages or building cage area

    • shed for equipment, would want a gator or some kind of transport for cages to outdoor enclosures
